LOGIC INNOVATIONS HELPS DELIVER NEW REVENUE GENERATING
DATACASTING APPLICATION SAN DIEGO, CA?April 1, 2003?Logic Innovations the premier provider of products for the convergence of broadcast and Internet networks, will supply their IP encapsulator, the IPE-2500, for a demonstration of High Definition quality content delivery to a PC at a low data rate of 6 Mbps. The demonstration, which will combine the technologies of several datacasting industry leaders, will take place in the Microsoft booth (SL136) at the National Association of Broadcasters Convention (NAB2003), April 5-10. Datacasting High Definition quality signals directly to a PC, server or mobile client offers broadcasters a way to leverage their sizable investment in digital technology. It not only increases viewership and thereby advertisers, it offers a key differentiator and helps them penetrate the local markets to become more competitive. In the demonstration, High Definition quality content will be sent at a low rate of 6 Mbps to a PC enabled with Microsoft Windows Media Player. The technical significance of the demonstration is the ability to deliver High Definition quality content utilizing only 6 Mbps of the total 19.392658 Mbps of a digital signal. Since the main DTV signal only uses a portion of the total bandwidth, the remaining can be used for sending value-added services or programming to client receivers such as PCs or wireless receivers. Such services often strain the limits of the existing Internet, making the terrestrial network an ideal delivery system. Logic Innovations? IPE2500 will be part of a collaborative effort with SpectraRep. The IPE-2500 will link the LAN-based data network and the terrestrial network. It provides three major functions: routing of the data packets based upon the user configured routing tables, the encapsulation of the packets into an MPEG transport stream and the conversion of IP data to the output interfaces supporting MPEG transport streams. The IPE-2500 also performs the QoS, or Quality of Service, by setting the maximum or minimum allowable data rate.
